Andhra, and in particular, Hyderabad was patronizing Times Group news papers Times of India (TOI) and Economic Times (ET). They were also part of many campaigns conducted and Hyderabadis considered TOI to be the paper of their city. But the backstabbing done to Hyderabadis during the recent Satyam fraud imbroglio took a heavy dent of the media's image
Both newspapers known for their sensational news went many steps further to systematically malign Satyam and its employees. They created rumors of '10000 job layoffs', "Shares heading for zero", "Two month paycuts etc", which irritated many of its readers
Srikanth Reddy, a hard core Economic Times fan, discontinued reading the news online stating that ET went overboard in maligning Satyam rather than spreading the truth. Jayanth Nagaraj smelt something sinister in the media's reporting and have suspended the newspaper's subscription. As the dirt from the Satyam settles down, we might know if many will follow Jayanth
