Chiranjeevi (Telugu: చిరంజీవి), born as Konidela Siva Shankara Vara Prasad on August 22, 1955, also known as Mega Star is a three-time Nandi Award-winning actor in the Telugu cinema industry. He is also a recipient of the Padma Bhushan Award.

Early life

Chiranjeevi is the eldest son born on 22 August 1955 in Narsapur, a Town on the Banks of River Godavari in the West Godavari District in Andhra Pradesh, to Sri Venkat Rao and Smt Anjana Devi. He spent his childhood in native village with his grand parents, while his family was else where because of his father's occupation.^{[citation needed]} He has two sisters and two brothers; his younger brother, Nagendra Babu is a film producer and a film actor, his youngest brother, Pawan Kalyan is also a Telugu film actor. Chiranjeevi is Andhra's famous theatre icon.

After his graduation at Y.N. College in Narsapuram, Chiranjeevi moved to Chennai to seek a career in acting. He joined an acting school in Madras. After struggling for some time, he began appearing in small roles in films like Pranam Kareedu and Punadhi Rallu.

Career

Chiranjeevi has appeared in primarily Telugu language films. Several of his films have been dubbed into Hindi and Tamil.

Early career

His first film, Pranam Khareedu, was released in September 1978. After 10 years he filmed his 100th. film, Trinetrudu which did not do well, released in September 1988.

Rise to fame

Khaidi was the first film to catapult Chiranjeevi into the big league.

Personal life

Chiranjeevi married Surekha, the daughter of veteran actor Padma Sri Allu Ramalingaiah. The couple have three children - two daughters Sushmita and Srija and a son, Ram Charan Teja, who now is also an actor. In October 1998 he started a charity called Chiranjeevi Eye and Blood Bank and Charitable Trust . The charity has saved hundreds of lives and nearly 1,600 people have received donated eyes.^{[citation needed]}

Awards & Honours

In January 2006, Chiranjeevi received the Padma Bhushan, the third highest civilian award in India because of his contributions to the Telugu Film Industry and for his social work.^[1]

In November 2006, Chiranjeevi also received honorary doctorate by the Andhra University for his services to the Telugu film industry and for his social work.^[2]

Gujarat Victory

The results of assembly elections 2007 for Gujarat shows the all-around support for the Narendra Modi led BJP. It is sad that people still outside Gujarat speak about the 2002 Godhra riots when the Gujarat people have moved with the development mode of Modi. Apart from the development, this victory is for the security that the BJP government has provided – one terrorism related death in five years compared to 5800+ deaths in the entire nation in the same period. The media, which conducted the Exit polls and part of the campaign should answer the following question(s) – Either they have misled their viewers and readers deliberately or inept to gauge the minds of the Gujarat people. It is time that the Media also accept defeat graciously.

Superstar Rajini's Shivaji is the only Indian film so far which has been able to cross 100 days of successful running in North America!


Shivaji, the highest budget film in the history of Indian cinema was released in nearly 40 countries worldwide with more than 800 prints. The Tamil version of Shivaji was released in 44 centers in US and Canada and witnessed historical collections. In the UK, Shivaji is the first Tamil film which got a place in the UK top -10 movie chart, and has also set a new collection record.

Now the film is celebrating its 100th day across the globe. In Canada, Shivaji was initially screened in 6 theaters and it is still running in Scarborough. Apart from Scarborough, there are 5 more theaters screening Shivaji as a regular show during the weekends. It is a very strange experience for the residents of Toronto to see a Tamil film running for 100 days continuously.
According to Ayngaran International, the worldwide distributors of Shivaji, the film is still running in 12 screens in Srilanka, drawing a good number of people. In Singapore, the film is celebrating 100 daysoin 2 screens.

According to S.C.Babu, the CEO of AVM, the film is celebrating 100 days run in 90 theaters across Tamil Nadu. In Chennai City, the film crossed 100 days in 10 theaters and in the suburbs it is still running in 13 cinema halls!

In Bengalooru, Shivaji is still running in 3 theaters and at one in Mysore. In Arora Cinema Hall, Mumbai, Shivaji is celebrating its 100th day tomorrow.

Arjunan, the Publicity in-charge of AVM said that they are waiting for more details of the film's 100 day run all over the world.

Sivaji 100 days celebration at Albert theater (9/17/2007) Rajini fans celebrated Sivaji's grand 100 days at Albert theatre in Chennai. Sivaji's Cinematographer KV Anand and Editor Antony participated and graced the celebrations. It is fans celebration Our Superstar's Sivaji is nearing 100 days in innumerous centers allover the world approximately. Fans decided to celebrate this in Chennai Albert theatre with fan fare and much fervour. Honour to fans KV Anand, Antony and few other comic actors of Sivaji were invited to the event and they happily agreed. And also came in right time and participated and honoured the fans. Remember this is an event organized and conducted by fans. Not production house or from Superstar's side. This itself shows the difference between Rajini fans and other fans. A big success The celebration was scheduled between 5.00 to 6.30 pm on Sunday Sep 16th evening so as fans would have time to watch Chandramukhi 804 function in Kalaignar TV. We were afraid about the crowd and worried how much would turn up since Padayappa was being telecasted in Sun TV. But beyond our expectation, fans gathered there and the event was a big success. Singing, dancing Fans started pouring in around 4.30 pm. The band orchestra was requested to play songs so as to keep the fans in euphoric mood. Once the orchestra started singing, everybody started dancing according to that. It was a nice visual to witness that everybody from each layer of society started dancing forgetting there whereabouts. This will happen only to one name on the earth. And it is – Superstar. And crackers were burst and there was fireworks show. We couldn't cover all with our camera as we were already running here and there. Arathis and trademark Palabhishekam Later fans performed Arathis and trademark Palabhishekam. Pumpkins were broken so as to vibe off evil eyes on Sivaji's success and Superstar. Coconuts broken Numerous coconuts were broken and the place looked like a sacred temple where devotees break coconuts. Slum dwellers joined us Local slum dwellers too joined fans and celebrations gained the momentum. This shows what is true equality. (Idhuthaanpa unmaiyana Samathuvam). Small children too were dancing and giving cat calls and shouts like: Supperrstaaar, Thalaivaaaaaaaaaaa, Sivajiiiiiiiiii….. Interested bus passengers Many bus passengers peeked their head from buses to watch to celebrations as the area was rocked continuously with band and fireworks. Many ten thousand walas were burst and it looked more or less like first day of Sivaji. Meantime, Chief Guests of the event KV Anand and Antony arrived and they were made to site inside the verandah of the theatre. NDTV crew had a separate sound byte with them. 100 days memento distributed 100 days shield was presented by local fan club office bearers to KV Anand, Antony and Albert Theatre Mariappan. Actor Balaji and Muthukalai who appeared in comic roles in Sivaji too participated in the event which was held Sunday 16th evening. Superstar's 200% co-operation for Sivaji movie KV Anand spoke at the event that Superstar's 200% co-operation throughout the making Sivaji is unforgettable in his life. He also added that Superstar means Punctuality and he was there for shooting in right time each day of shooting. Antony said that Sivaji's success is unimaginable and unmatchable. Without others' help – pls bear sir We have witnessed chaos and confusions in success celebrations like this even organized by a powerful production houses where they arrange everything with two or more PROs. Since this was an event organized by fans there were chaos and confusions prevailing here and there in the event which made KV Anand and Antony little bit uneasy. However, we told them to bear this since this is a celebration organized by fans themselves without any others' help. They said no probs at all. We personally thanked KV Anand on behalf of Rajinifans.com for his interaction with media throughout the making and running of Sivaji in these two years and also congratulate him for his best work in Sivaji. Sweets and fireworks Previously fans cut cake and burst out crackers which rocked that area. Sweets were distributed to all including audiences. Rajini's cutout was garlanded (fans yelling – Thailaivaaaaaaaaaaa echoed the whole area for some time during this time and fans performed arathis. Band Orchestra was organised where they sung famous songs from Rajini films. Late evening all the fans enjoyed watching Sivaji movie. In 1996, Ramar Pillai claimed to be able to transmute water to gasoline by a herbal formula that he claimed was the result of a miraculous bush. Pillai obtained 20 acres of land to cultivate his bush, but in fact it turned out that he was using sleight of hand to substitute kerosene for the liquid he claimed to have derived from the bush.

Two persons died and tens of people were injured when a portion of an under-construction fly over collapsed at Punjagutta in Hyderabad city on Sunday evening.
